Sometimes simple everyday products can be the source of ideas for starting a home business. There are literally thousands of product ideas for a home based business. But the question is which are the ones that are possible money making products and how do you go about choosing them.
The theory of demand and supply is simple. Basically we can make a profit by providing people what they want. But the rule of thumb is to avoid seasonal or fad products. You would probably want to look into products that people want/need all the time but maybe can’t get it that easily. A product that would fulfill that need would be a money making product.
Let’s take shoes for example. People need shoes. But you can get shoes anywhere. So lets consider unique shoes like platforms. Platforms made a comeback not so long ago but are considered fad shoes. Even the rock band KISS has done away with them. So, in short, platforms may not be a wise choice of unique shoes to sell.
How about shoes for pregnant women? That’s a niche market worth looking at. They’re not easily available at the shoe shop round the corner and the potential market for these type of shoes is huge. The same goes for vegan shoes. Again, they’re not easily available but there’s a market out there for this potential money making product.

There are no guarantees in business, online or otherwise, so it does help to do a little research. As you can see from the example with the shoes, its not that difficult to find a common product and differentiate it to fit a niche. Most great home business ideas start out that way.
It would be a bonus if you had a passion for the product you are selling from your home based small business. For instance, if your were to sell running shoes then it would be good if you were a runner yourself. You would then have first hand knowledge of the product and thus would be in a position to dispense advice on the different types of running shoes there are in the market. This would add value to your online home based business. If you feel that your product knowledge is lacking the take some time to educate yourself. Pay a visit to sites like www.runnersworld.com. Sites like this are not only a good source of information but could stem new ideas for products for niche markets.
