I’m almost done with my research and will be looking into starting my very own online store soon. It should be up in about 3 weeks…give or take a week or two (I’d like to catch a bit of the Beijing Olympics as well).
I’ll also need to plan my time so I have at least 2 hours a day for a few days to spend on the start up part of the project. I’ve read that some people can get their site up in just a matter of hours while others take up to a month. I’ve got a lot on my plate so three weeks looks more feasible in my case .
Right now I’m narrowing down my options on what to sell. Once that is decided then I have to come up with a name for the store. The name should reflect what you’re selling. It’s sometimes fun to have a play on words but be careful to draw the line at the inappropriate. For instance in you were selling Hard Hats, you should not name your store Hard On. Perhaps something to the tune of Hard Headed or Hats On would probably be better choices.
Next, I’ll need to get my hardware ready. I think I’m going to need a new PC. I already have a 3 in 1 printer/copier/fax machine in good working condition so I don’t need to spend on that. I have a bit of HTML knowledge but I haven’t decided if I want to design my own page or use the services of an e-commerce solutions provider.
If I do decide to design it myself, I’ll probably need some software to help me design my site. I’ll elaborate further in this post.
